Get to know us better—discover our story, vision and value

Our Vision

Our vision is to create an environment where children can freely explore their cultural identity. We’re not an educational platform, so the focus isn’t on structured learning. Instead, we aim to offer a fun and interactive space for children to engage with traditional Chinese art and language, making the experience enjoyable and immersive rather than prescriptive.

Our Value

Our values centre on the belief that culture is both a legacy and a source of hope for the future. We are dedicated to cultivating children’s creativity, confidence, and cultural awareness. Through our programmes, we aim to equip the next generation with the tools they need to navigate a multicultural world, encouraging them to find their place within it and build deeper connections with those around them.

Our Logo

Our logo showcases two gentle hands cradling cultural symbols, representing the care and dedication we put into preserving and passing on Chinese traditions. The soft purple and pink shades evoke warmth, elegance, and a nurturing spirit, while blue captures the vastness of Chinese culture, and green symbolizes growth and hope. Together, these colors reflect our mission to protect cultural heritage and inspire future generations to embrace their roots with pride and joy.

Our

Board Members

The Heritage Foundation is guided by a dedicated and experienced board of trustees. Together, they bring diverse expertise and a shared commitment to preserving Chinese heritage and supporting the next generation.

Skye Lan (Chairperson)

Ms Lan is a Barrister in Auckland City. Her primary focus is on Criminal Defence and Immigration work. She devotes her time to defending those who are the most marginalized in our community. During her spare time, she likes to spend it with her Children and take a good long nap.

She was inspired to start this foundation after noticing that bringing her children up in New Zealand meant they lacked knowledge and understanding of their roots.

She is involved in the operational side of the foundation.

Belinda Zhang (Trustee)

Ms Zhang is a restaurateur and entrepreneur who runs a successful chain of Chinese restaurants in the Auckland Community.

She spends her spare time with her two young children and enjoys attending ballet classes with her young daughter. She is involved in the operational side.

Sunny Wang (Trustee)

Sunny Wang is a fire engineer based in Auckland. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Canterbury and is passionate about designing and ensuring building fire safety features.

He was born in China and moved to New Zealand at a young age, which has given him the unique perspective of growing up between two cultures. Learning and maintaining his Chinese language skills has been vital to his personal journey. It allows him to stay connected with his heritage, helping him better understand his history, traditions, and the deep-rooted values that shape who he is.

He believes understanding the Chinese culture and being able to speak Chinese is an incredible skill that enriches both his personal and professional life, enabling him to stay rooted while engaging with the world.

Nathaniel Cheah (Administration)

Nathaniel comes from a Chinese family originally from Brunei. His mother speaks Cantonese, and his father speaks Mandarin, but neither language was passed down to him. Growing up speaking only English, Nathaniel has always felt a sense of disconnect from his roots and is deeply disappointed that he never had the chance to learn.

This work holds a special place in his heart because he wants to ensure that this generation, and those that follow, have the opportunity to learn their heritage and language without financial barriers.

Nathaniel is passionate about making the learning experience fun and engaging, creating an environment where children can connect to their culture in meaningful ways. His goal is to give kids the chance he never had and to make the journey of discovery a joyful one.
